Welcome (back) to my blog dear reader! I am so glad you are here. 😄 I hope you enjoy your time here.
Today I wanted to write a little bit about passion. It was a suggested topic ages ago when I asked for ideas from my crazies over on Instagram. (BeautyInTheCrazy if you haven’t followed yet. Shameless self-promo 😉) So I am finally gonna talk about it!
Passion can be a confusing thing but also a fascinating one. It can be spread out over a variety of things, topics, activities, or even people in some random cases. But sometimes it can be concentrated on one thing. Whether it is a plethora or singular thing varies from person to person and from season of life to season of life.
For me, I have a few different things I would consider passions of mine. But at the same time, there are also things that I really like that I would not consider passions. So, what is the difference? Well, first of all, what does passion even mean? “An intense desire or enthusiasm for something...Strong and barely controllable emotion.” (Thanks Webster!) From these definitions I would say that passion is something you “have” to do, are strongly convicted to do, or you are motivated to do/accomplish because of how it makes you feel. A good passion to have would be one that gives you a lasting positive feeling. It fulfills a deep desire within you that nothing else can satisfy.
What are those things for me? Well, thank you for asking dear reader. Like I said before, I have a few things in my life I believe fit the criteria and definitions I listed in the previous paragraph. Unless this is the first time you have visited my blog, (Hi! Welcome!) I bet you can guess my number one passion. Jesus. Duh. 😄 My faith in Him. fostered by the Tradition of the Catholic Church is my absolute number one passion. There is nothing on earth that excites me more than to participate in the sacraments and taking time to tell others about Jesus. Seriously. If I can plan an entire day of being with friends around when we can go to Mass together, I will. And have. The time I spent learning about my faith and participating in elements of it is huge. (12+ years of Catholic education including 4 years of college) The daily time spent on my faith is the ruler against which I will be measuring my other passions.
How much time do you spend on things that matter to you? What are your passions? I would love to chat about it with you dear reader.
That brings me to the second passion of mine which is interacting with people and hearing their stories. Human beings are fascinating creations and I could listen to what is on their heart for hours. Not only do people have amazing stories they also have great ideas about a huge variety of things. Taking the time to listen to what they have to say is a great way to learn about people. Yeah. It can be a little scary at first to enter into that vulnerable situation. But it pays off every time. Trust me.
My third passion is teaching. I qualify this as a passion because it is also my vocation. I think you should be passionate about your vocation and if you are not then maybe it is not where you are meant to be. Of all of the jobs I have had in my life, teaching brings me the most contentment and joy. The process of being a teacher also means I am learning from my students. The lessons of the day are just one part of the job. It makes me so thrilled when the students see the pieces of history click together. It brings a smile to my face every time and even now just thinking about it.
I also love the relationships that form through teaching. The interactions I have with students and other teachers are a highlight of my day. I love seeing how each individual person approaches a problem, lesson, or assignment. I learn so much from them. Another element of teaching and relationships is working with my younger siblings. Since I live at home still, I have a lot of opportunities to help my two youngest sisters and youngest brother with their homework. It is so much fun for me to get to know them by teaching them. I hope they enjoy it as much as I do, because the time that I spend with them has become treasured memories.
These are just a few examples of the things about which I am passionate. If y’all enjoyed this post maybe I can do a part two! I hope y’all have enjoyed this week’s content and that y’all check back next week for a new post! May God bless you and may you always find the beauty in the crazy.
☀️💙
