Relishing In My Curiosity

Welcome to my blog dear reader! I am so glad you are here. I hope you enjoy your time here.

Last week I wrote a lot about my 2018 and how the word move affected me. This year I am doing something similar. However, I am planning ahead instead of making it a reflective pursuit. When I used the word generator, ( http://wordoftheyear.me if you missed it last time or want to try it out for yourself) I used it twice. Not because I didn’t like the first word that I got, but because I liked the first one I got so much that I wanted to see if it would happen again. And it did. So, dear reader, my words of the year 2019 are Curious & Relish.

To start off on this I’d like to share the definitions of these words that I will be using for the remainder of the post. The definition of curious that I will be using is: “eager to learn or know; inquisitive; arousing or exciting speculation, interest, or attention through being inexplicable or highly unusual.” I like to think of myself as a naturally curious person. This was even more obvious when I was in school. Since it’s been almost a year since I graduated from university I’d like to rekindle that side of myself. The definition of relish that I will be using is: “to take pleasure in; like; enjoy; to make pleasing to the taste.” This word is definitely more physical than mental and I hope that it will spark some adventures in my year.

So, how will I make 2019 a more curious year? Through practical application and being open-minded about inspiration and discovery. This year I want to read more books. I read dozens of books a month growing up and was almost constantly reading through college. I lost that habit this past year and I would absolutely love to re-invest in that pastime. Another thing I’d love to do this year is visiting new places around my hometown and beyond. I have lived in the same town my whole life but I feel like I haven’t truly experienced it. So, I am challenging myself to research a place in my town or nearby and to visit it. Some of these trips will be with others, Some I’d like to go by myself. The final way I have decided (so far) to make 2019 a more curious year is by learning more about things that interest me. I have several interests and hobbies in the back of my mind about which I have limited knowledge. My plan for 2019 is to research them or develop my skill in those areas. Through all of this, I hope to be a more curious and fulfilled individual by the end of 2019.

Applying the word relish to my life is going to be a bit of a different experience. First of all, I need to start again with taking time to enjoy the simple pleasures of life. Recognizing the little positives in my day for what they are and allowing myself to feel happy because of them. Also, I need to recognize all of the blessings that I have in my life, from my family and friends to the comfortable house that I call my home. These things are so valuable and should be appreciated as such. I also want to try being satisfied with less. Now, what is that supposed to mean? For me it means, being okay with clothes that fit and flatter me even when they aren’t fancy name brands. It means not going out to buy new things when the things I have at home are perfectly usable still. By thinking of the word relish, I want to enjoy my 2019 to the fullest, no matter what the year throws at me.

Can I apply both words at the same time? I like to think I can. Trying new foods, going to visit new places, and making little adventures in my literary worlds can fulfill me by relishing in my curiosity. I invite you to come along with me on my 2019 journey, dear reader. With these descriptive words in mind, I hope to find more beauty in the craziness of life. ☀️💙
